Ellie Marino | Ph.D. in Neuroscience
Ellie Marino began her academic journey at Marquette University, earning a B.S. in Psychology with minors in Biology, Neuroscience, and Music. She continued her education at Marquette through the doctoral program, where she pursued her Ph.D. in Neuroscience. Ellie completed her doctoral studies in the summer of 2026, advancing her expertise in neuroscience research and contributing to the understanding of brain function and physiological regulation.
“I am broadly interested in the retina-to-brain circuitry underlying how environmental light alters basic physiological processes such as breathing and locomotor activity. My work has a special focus on intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs), which are arguably the coolest cell type in the world! I have been a postdoctoral student in the lab since 2026 and would like to stay in academia throughout my career. My long-term goal is to be a tenure-track professor or work in a museum.” – Ellie Marino
